Terminology differences

In some cases, different terminology is used between filer users and gFiler users. In most cases, the Data ONTAP documents use the terminology relevant to filer users. Therefore, you have to "translate" some of the words in the Data ONTAP documents to the context applicable to the gFiler. For example:

Filers store data on disks in disk shelves. gFiler gateways access data stored in LUNS on the storage subsystems.
Translate the term filer to gFiler or gateway.
Translate the term disk to LUN.
If a command uses the term disk, replace it with the term LUN. For example, the vol create command syntax after replacing disk with LUN is

vol create volname LUN-list
Generally, you can disregard discussions about disk shelves.
