Direct-attached cluster configuration--513 to 672 LUNs
Connectivity overview
The following information is for a direct-attached cluster configuration of 513 to 672 LUNs. The illustration and table show the number of ports and cable connections required for storage subsystems that support 256 LUNs per port or 256 LUNs per host group per port (see Storage subsystem port support, by model).

Notes to the illustration:
- All connected ports on a gFiler cluster have access to all LUNs for that gFiler.
- The minimum number of ports are included in the illustration.
- The gFiler is limited to one host group per port and the maximum number of LUNs per host group in that port.
- For storage subsystem models that cannot support more than 256 LUNs per host group per port, you must add additional redundant port pairs on the storage subsystem to obtain the 672 LUNs. You cannot just add another host group on the existing port for the gFiler to increase the number of LUNs.
- For the XP12000, one port pair per gFiler node is required. (Any direct-attached cluster configuration requires four redundant ports.)
- NetApp recommends that LUNs be distributed equally over the redundant port pairs for load balancing.
