gFiler capacity metrics
Units of measurement for storage
NetApp defines units of measurement for storage as follows:
Kilobyte (KB) = 1,024 bytes
Megabyte (MB) = 1,024 x 1,024 bytes
Gigabyte (GB) = 1,000 bytes x MB
Terabyte (TB) = 1,000 bytes x GB
Note
All capacity metrics used in the gFiler document library use the NetApp-defined units of measurement.
gFiler capacity limits
gFiler models have the following maximum and minimum capacity limits.
Note
In the table, "Required" assumes 60 percent compression. A core dump is not guaranteed. "Recommended" assumes no compression and a guaranteed coredump.

Each CPU module (head) must have
- A root volume of the following size:
- Recommended: 72 GB
- Required: 1 GB
- A spare LUN of at least 1.5 GB is also required in case a problem occurs that results in a system failure. The system can then dump core to the spare LUN, and NetApp can analyze the core dump to determine the cause of the problem.
