Guidelines for configuring ports on your storage subsystem

Sharing LUNs in an array  Top

LUNs in an array can be shared between gFiler gateways and non-gFiler hosts.

Gateway sharing storage subsystem ports with other hosts  Top

You can share channel adapter ports on a storage subsystem among gFiler gateways and non-gFiler hosts.

Number of channel adapter ports connecting to a gFiler  Top

You can access LUNs on the storage subsystem through a maximum of two channel adapter ports. Because LUNs are exported on all ports, you are limited to two connections to access the LUNs on your storage subsystem.

For more details, go to Chapter 3, Supported Configurations.

Channel adapter LUN configuration  Top

When two ports share access to a LUN, all the LUNs accessible from one port must be accessible from the other, thus providing redundant paths to the LUNs.

This is ensured when you select RS/6000 as the host type of your gateway.

Caution
The LUN number used to map the LUNs must be the same on each of the shared ports or data corruption can occur.

Guidelines for configuring Fibre Channel ports  Top

After selecting the Fibre Channel port you want to configure, use the following guidelines to set port options on the UI of your storage subsystem.

Port parameter

Guideline

Port address

Any port address.

Fibre Channel topology

Whether a fabric switch is used--Fabric ON or OFF

Select whether a fabric switch is used to connect the gateway to the storage subsystem. If you use a fabric switch, select Fabric ON. If not, select Fabric OFF.

Fibre Channel protocol

Connection type--Fibre Channel or Point-to-Point

Select whether the connection type is Fibre Channel or Point-to-Point. If you use a fabric switch, select Point-to-Point. If not, that is, if the gateway is directly connected to the storage subsystem, select Fibre Channel.
