Upgrade Planning and Requirements

Do not proceed with gFiler software upgrade or installation until you have read the Getting Started Guide for your vendor and the Release Notes. These documents contain information about storage system software and parameter settings that are essential for a successful gFiler software upgrade and installation.

The following Getting Started Guides are available in the gFiler Gateway Series library:

Getting Started for IBM
Getting Started for Hitachi, Limited

Caution
Be sure to follow the procedures in this upgrade guide to upgrade your gFiler to Data ONTAP 6.5.1. Certain steps are required to upgrade to 6.5.1 from releases prior to the 6.5 family that have not been required for previous gFiler upgrades.

About this chapter

This chapter contains information to help you ensure that your gFilers meet the requirements for upgrading to the new version of Data ONTAP. Additionally, this chapter provides information about some issues you might encounter during an upgrade. Because new features are introduced in each release of Data ONTAP, you might encounter issues when upgrading, especially if you are not upgrading from the immediately previous version of Data ONTAP.
