Installing a disk in a disk shelf

Installing a disk  Top

To install a disk in a disk shelf, complete the following steps.

Step

Action

1

Put on the antistatic wrist strap and grounding leash.

2

Enter the following command:

disk swap

It is important to issue the disk swap command only when you have a disk that you want to physically remove or add to a disk shelf. The system input/output will stop until a disk is added or removed from the disk shelf.

Note
The disk swap command quiets the SCSI bus, allowing you to remove or install the disk from the shelf. If you decide not to replace the disk, you can use the disk unswap command.

3

Orient the disk drive carrier so that the cam mechanism is at the top and the "press" release bar is on the bottom.

Caution
When inserting a disk drive carrier into an R150 disk shelf, the drive carrier handle should be fully extended to its release position before insertion, as shown in the following illustration. Failure to do this might result in damage to the disk drive carrier locking mechanism.

4

Insert the disk drive carrier into the guide slot in the disk shelf and firmly push it in until it engages the backplane.

Caution
Do not slam the device carrier into place.

5

Making sure that the cam fingers engage the top of the disk drive carrier, swing the drive handle down until it clicks into place.
