By default, if Data ONTAP encounters media errors during a RAID reconstruction, it automatically invokes an advanced mode process (wafliron) that compensates for the media errors and enables Data ONTAP to bypass the errors.
If this process is successful, RAID reconstruction continues, and the aggregate in which the error was detected remains online.
If you configure Data ONTAP so that it does not invoke this process, or if this process fails, Data ONTAP attempts to place the affected aggregate in restricted mode. If restricted mode fails, the storage system panics, and after a reboot, Data ONTAP brings up the affected aggregate in restricted mode. In this mode, you can manually invoke the wafliron process in advanced mode or schedule downtime for your storage system for reconciling the error by running the WAFL_check command from the Boot menu.
The raid.reconstruction.wafliron.enable option determines whether Data ONTAP automatically starts the wafliron process after detecting medium errors during RAID reconstruction. By default, the option is set to On.
Leave the raid.reconstruction.wafliron.enable option at its default setting of On, which might increase data availability.
To enable or disable the raid.reconstruct.wafliron.enable option, complete the following step.
