Reallocating file and volume layout

About reallocation  Top

If your volumes contain large files or LUNs that store information that is frequently accessed and revised (such as databases), the layout of your data can become suboptimal. Additionally, when you add disks to an aggregate, your data is no longer evenly distributed across all of the disks. The Data ONTAP reallocate commands allow you to reallocate the layout of files, LUNs or entire volumes for better data access.

For more information about the reallocation commands, see your Block Access Management Guide, keeping in mind that for reallocation, files are managed exactly the same as LUNs.
