Configuring your storage system for CIFS

When cifs setup is run  Top

When you have a valid CIFS license, cifs setup is automatically invoked upon completion of the Setup Wizard or the setup command (if it has not been run previously). You can also start the cifs setup command by entering cifs setup on the Data ONTAP command line.

Configuring storage systems for CIFS  Top

To add the storage system to an Active Directory environment, the cifs setup command creates and joins the storage system's computer account to an Active Directory domain. This requires you to assign permissions on certain domain objects. If your security structure does not allow you to assign the permissions described in Step 2 of the following procedure, see Precreating a Storage System Domain Account.

Complete the following steps to configure your storage system for CIFS.

Step

Action

1

Determine whether you want to precreate an Active Directory Domain account for the storage system, as described on the following page. If yes, follow that procedure. If no, go on to Step 2.

2

For Active Directory environments only:

In the Active Directory Users and Computers tree, select the Organizational Unit (OU). On the OU, assign the following permissions for the storage system administrator account: Change Password, Write Public Information, and Create Computer Objects.

3

Enter the cifs setup command and use the information you gathered to answer questions posed by the prompts.

See Chapter 2, Information Gathering.
