Precreating a Storage System Domain Account

Terminology  Top

In this section, the following definitions apply:

Reasons for precreating the storage system domain account  Top

When you use cifs setup to create the storage system domain account, you must assign certain permissions (listed later in this section) on the storage system container.

If you create the storage system domain account before you run cifs setup

If your security structure does not allow the permissions cifs setup requires when it creates the storage system domain account, you can create the storage system domain account before you run cifs setup.

Precreating the NT4 domain account  Top

When you run cifs setup, a Windows directory account is automatically created, unless you intend to use Windows NT4-style authentication. To use Windows NT4-style authentication, you must create a domain account using Windows tools before you run cifs setup. If you do not do this, cifs setup will terminate, prompting you to create the domain account.

Required permissions  Top

Permissions for adding a storage system to an Active Directory domain are the same as permissions required to add any Windows server. The storage system administrator account must have those permissions for the Active Directory container in which you are installing your storage device.

How to manually precreate and configure a storage system domain account  Top

To precreate and configure a domain account for the storage system, perform the following steps.

The following procedure describes Windows 2000 Server tasks. Details of this procedure may vary on other Windows server versions.
