Creating Diskettes

About this appendix  

This appendix describes how to create the following diskettes from a UNIX or Windows client:

• System boot diskettes
• A system firmware diskette

When to create diskettes  

You do not need to create diskettes for F87, F825, F880, FAS200 series, FAS900 series, FAS3000 series, or NearStore series storage systems. These systems do not have a floppy drive and use a CompactFlash card for firmware, diagnostics, and system software downloads.

For all other storage systems (F810, F820, and F840 systems):

• You need to create a set of system boot diskettes if you do not have boot diskettes for the release that you are running.
• You need to create a firmware upgrade diskette whenever you need to upgrade firmware.

Diskette requirements  

For each diskette that you want to create, you must have a write-enabled, 1.44-MB, PC-formatted diskette.
