Understanding the vFiler command family

Purpose of the vFiler command

The vfiler command, which is supported only on the hosting storage system, enables the hosting storage system administrator to set up vFiler units, manage vFiler unit resources, and manage Data ONTAP features on individual vFiler units.

General syntax of the vFiler command

The vfiler command family has several commands, and each command has its own syntax. The following syntax is the general vfiler command syntax:

vfiler command vfilertemplate options ...

Meaning of vfilertemplate option

Some vfiler commands support the vfilertemplate option. Wherever you see vfilertemplate in this manual or in the na_vfiler man page, you can substitute a vFiler unit name, a comma-separated list of vFiler unit names, an IPspace declaration, or an asterisk as a wildcard. If you use the asterisk, the command takes effect on all vFiler units, including vFiler0 (the physical storage system), unless the command is inapplicable to vFiler0. Format of path names in the vFiler command

Some vfiler commands include a path name. It is the complete path name for the qtree or volume assigned to the specified vFiler unit.
