Reactivating the original vFiler unit
When to use this section
Use this section when you want to bring the original vFiler unit back online after repairing or replacing the original storage system following a disaster.
How you do this depends on whether you have recovered the original storage system, or are bringing up a new storage system as a replacement.
Ways to reactivate the original vFiler unit
You can reactivate the original vFiler unit in the following ways:
- If the storage system was not damaged but suffered only a temporary failure, you can select one of the two following methods:
- If the storage element associated with the vFiler unit is a volume (traditional or FlexVol), you can reactivate the vFiler unit by resynchronizing the original vFiler unit with the disaster-recovery vFiler unit and then bringing up the original vFiler unit by following the procedure Resynchronizing the vFiler unit.
You cannot use this method if the storage elements associated with the vFiler units are qtrees.
- If the storage element associated with the vFiler unit is a qtree, you can reactivate the vFiler unit using SnapMirror commands, as described in the procedure Reactivating the original vFiler unit using SnapMirror commands.
If you are not comfortable using SnapMirror commands, follow the procedure described in the next bullet to reactivate the vFiler unit. That procedure is less complicated, but requires more data movement.
- If the storage system was severely damaged, or you are not comfortable using SnapMirror commands, follow the procedure Reactivating the original vFiler unit using vFiler dr commands.
