A target portal group tag is a numerical value from 0 to 65535 that identifies a specific iSCSI target portal group.
Specify a new tag for the iSCSI target portal group from 1 to 256 or leave the field blank to allow Data ONTAP to assign the tag automatically. If the tag you specify is already assigned, Data ONTAP generates an error message. Once a tag is assigned to a target portal group, you cannot change the tag.
Note: Unless you need to assign a specific tag to a target portal group, it is recommended that you let Data ONTAP assign the target portal group tag.
For clustered filers, be sure that each interface on both partners fails over to an interface assigned to a target portal group with the same tag. When specifying a tag for a target portal group for a clustered filer, note the tag of the target portal group on the partner filer to be sure they match. If the target portal group tags do not match at the time of the takeover operation, the initiator will see a different mapping between the target portal and its target portal group. The mismatch can prevent the initiator from reestablishing the multi-connection session to the takeover filer.
