Managing iSCSI Portal Groups

From the Manage iSCSI Portal Groups page, you can perform the following tasks:

Adding a User-Defined iSCSI Target Portal Group:

When you add a network interface to a user-defined target portal group, Data ONTAP reassigns the interface from its system default portal group to the selected user-defined target portal group.

Note: The reassignments that occur when you add or remove interfaces to a user-defined target portal group can result in the termination of iSCSI sessions already in progress over those interfaces.

To add an iSCSI target portal group, complete the following steps:

  1. From the Manage iSCSI Portal Groups page, click Add a Portal Group.

  2. The Add a Portal Group page appears.

  3. Specify a name for the new target portal group.

  4. If you want to assign a tag for the target portal group, specify a tag between 1 and 256. Otherwise, leave the field black and allow Data ONTAP to assign a tag automatically.

  5. Note: If you specify a tag that has already been assigned, Data ONTAP will generate an error message.

  6. If you want to add interfaces to the target portal group when the group is created, select the interface from the displayed list. You do not have to select interfaces in order to create the target portal group.

  7. Click Add.

  8. The target portal group is created. To see the new target portal group, go to the left navigation pane and click Manage Portal Groups.

Modifying a User-Defined iSCSI Target Portal Group:

To modify a user-defined target portal group, you can add interfaces to an existing target portal group or remove interfaces assigned to an existing target portal group. When you remove an interface from a user-defined target portal group, Data ONTAP automatically reassigns the interface to its system default target portal group.

Note: The reassignments that occur when you add or remove interfaces from a user-defined target portal group can result in the termination of iSCSI sessions already in progress over those interfaces.

Once a user-defined target portal group is created, you cannot change its name or tag. You cannot modify system default target portal groups, except to reassign an interface from its system default target portal group to a user-defined target portal group.

To modify a user-defined target portal group, complete the following steps:

  1. From the Manage iSCSI Portal Groups page, click the name of the user-defined target portal group you want to modify.

  2. The Modify iSCSI Portal Group page appears.

  3. In the Interfaces field, select the interface(s) you want to add to the target portal group and unselect any interface(s) you want to remove from the target portal group.

  4. Click Apply.

  5. The membership of the target portal group is updated according to your selections. Data ONTAP reassigns interfaces that were removed from the target portal group to their respective system default target portal groups.

Destroying a User-Defined iSCSI Target Portal Group:

When you destroy a user-defined iSCSI target portal group, Data ONTAP reassigns the member network interfaces back to their respective system default target portal groups.

Note: The interface reassignments that occur when you destroy a user-defined target portal group can result in the termination of iSCSI sessions already in progress over those interfaces.

To destroy a user-defined iSCSI target portal group, complete the following steps:

  1. From the Manage iSCSI Portal Groups page, select the check box of each target portal group you want to destroy.

  2. Note: You cannot destroy system default target portal groups, so there are no check boxes for groups of that type.

  3. Click Destroy

  4. A popup asks you to confirm that you want to destroy the selected target portal group(s).

  5. Click OK.

  6. The selected target portal group(s) are destroyed. The network interfaces in the destroyed group(s) are reassigned automatically to their respective system default target portal groups.
