Rapid Restore is a background data recovery method that provides access to client-requested data while a data restore is in progress. Rapid Restore integrates with SnapVault qtree functionality to enable client read and write access to content while data is being restored from snapshot images.
Rapid Restore functionality can be deployed within an existing SnapVault storage system where:
The primary and secondary storage systems are filers, or a filer and a NearStore storage system.
Primary—a storage system that is a target destination for a data restore; for example, a filer to which data is restored after data loss or corruption
Secondary volume—the source data for a Rapid Restore restoration process; for example, a NearStore storage system
The secondary storage system is running Data ONTAP software version 7.1 or later.
A Rapid Restore (rapid_restore) license is enabled on the primary storage system.
The secondary volume mirrors the contents of a single primary volume.
The new primary volume size is at least that of the secondary volume.
The SnapVault Primary license (sv_ontap_pri) is enabled on the primary storage system.
The SnapVault Secondary license (sv_ontap_sec) is enabled on the secondary storage system.
The secondary volume and the new primary volumes are FlexVol volumes.
If the primary is a traditional volume, you must upgrade the primary to Data ONTAP version 7.1 or later before restoring the original traditional volume to a FlexVol volume using Rapid Restore.
Note: Rapid Restore does not support data recovery for SnapLock Enterprise or SnapLock Compliance volumes.
