Volume Status

The status of a volume is displayed as the mount state combined with one or more volume states (such as raid_dp, initializing, and so on):

mount_state, state1, state2....

For example:

online,raid4

The mount state is one of the following values:

Mount State

Description

Online

Read and write access is allowed.

Restricted

Some operations, such as copying volumes and parity reconstruction, are allowed, but data access is not allowed.

Offline

Read or write access is not allowed.

Note: Although flexible volumes do not directly involve RAID, the state of a flexible volume includes the state of its containing aggregate. Thus, the states pertaining to RAID apply to flexible volumes as well as traditional volumes.

The volume state is one or more of the following values:

Volume State

Description

normal

The volume is unmirrored and all of its RAID groups are functional.

mirrored

The volume is mirrored and all of its RAID groups are functional.

degraded

The volume contains at least one degraded RAID group that is not being reconstructed.

double degraded

The volume contains at least one RAID group with double disk failure that is not being reconstructed. (This state is possible if RAID DP protection is enabled for the affected volume.)

mirror degraded

The volume is a mirrored volume, and one of its plexes is offline or resyncing.

foreign

The disks that the volume contains were moved to the current filer from another filer.

Reconstruction xx% complete

At least one RAID group in the volume is being reconstructed after experiencing single disk failure.

Double reconstruction xx% complete

At least one RAID group in the volume is being reconstructed after experiencing double disk failure. (This state is possible if RAID DP protection is enabled for the affected volume.)

partial

At least one disk was found for the volume, but two or more disks are missing.

growing

Disks are in the process of being added to the volume.

initializing

The volume is in the process of being initialized.

needs check

A WAFL consistency check needs to be performed on the volume.

resyncing

The volume contains two plexes, and one plex is resynchronizing with the volume.

ironing

A WAFL consistency check is being performed on this volume.

copying

The volume is currently the target volume of an active vol copy operation.

snapmirrored

The volume is a snapmirrored replica of another volume.

verifying

Mirror verification operation is currently being run on the volume.

wafl inconsistent

The volume has been marked corrupted. Please contact technical support if you see an volume in this state.

invalid

The volume contains no volumes and none can be added. Typically, this happens only after an aborted volume copy operation.
