Starting and stopping ContentDirector consists of starting and stopping the core application services, the ContentDirector Agent (CDA) services, and the management console, which can be initiated through an application or a Java applet.
The procedures for starting and stopping the ContentDirector services and the management console application vary according to platform.
The core application, management console, and applet run on the following platforms:
The CDA runs only on NetCache appliances. You start each CDA after enabling and configuring it on NetCache. See the ContentDirector Installation Guide for detailed instructions.
The core application services start automatically when you complete the installation process and any time you reboot the system on which they reside. If you do not want to have the services running in the background and do not want to reboot the system, you can start and stop them manually. See the instructions specific to each operating system in this chapter for details.
The management console is loaded manually. You can run it as an application from the core application machine or as Java applet from a remote machine through a Web browser. This distinction determines the procedure for starting and stopping the management console, but the user interface is the same in both instances.
The chapter is primarily organized by platform. The exception is starting and stopping the user interface with the Java applet. Because you run the applet from a browser, the procedures for doing so are determined by the specific browser being used. An example is given at the end of the chapter.
