Creating domains
Set a guideline on domain workspaces
One important part of setting up a domain is selecting a workspace. The workspace is an area on hard disk that ContentDirector uses for temporary files and backup copies of distributed content.
You have the option of either using the default workspace, or setting up a separate workspace for each domain. To use ContentDirector efficiently, set a rule to consistently do one or the other.
Each approach has advantages and disadvantages:
- Using the default workspace is faster and easier, but does not organize or secure the backup files as well.
- Setting a separate workspace for each domain is more complex, but it:
- Helps maintain security by keeping backup copies within the domain
- Organizes administration and maintenance by storing each domain's backup copies separately
The size of the workspace should be at least four times as large as the space required by the content you plan to distribute. For strategies for reducing disk space requirements, see Reducing local disk space requirements.
