A user group is a container for users and their rights. Rights belong to the group, rather than to individual users. All users in the group share the same rights.
User groups set user rights in two ways:
Each user group can access only the sources, servers, and folders included in its domain. The user group can further filter access to them.
The user group also defines whether its users can create each of the following types of resources: jobs, policies, destination groups, and contacts.
Users can belong to multiple user groups, but only under a single domain. They cannot belong to groups outside that domain. Users belonging to multiple user groups have the combined rights of all the groups. If one group provides access to a resource, the user has access.
You need to define a user group whenever there are one or more users within a domain who need a specific level of access to a specific set of domain resources.
A typical use of user groups is for a company distributing content internally for several different departments. Human Resources, Marketing, and Customer Service each have their own user group. The personnel responsible for the Human Resources intranet site cannot distribute content to the Marketing intranet site, and vice versa.
