Overview of ContentDirector agent configuration
Prerequisite tasks
Before you begin configuring the CDA, you must have already done the following:
- Run the setup program from the NetCache appliance console.
The setup program prompts you for the information required to identify the NetCache appliance to the network, including its IP address, host name, DNS domain, and default gateway. If you have not already run the setup program, see the NetCache Quick Setup document.
- Read and become familiar with the planning information for the ContentDirector agent software contained in the NetCache Deployment Planning Guide.
The procedures in this chapter assume that you understand this information.
- Plan your ContentDirector distribution network, including the location of all group leaders and group members, before beginning the ContentDirector agent configuration.
- Install and configure the ContentDirector 2.0 core application software on a dedicated central server.
How the agent software fits into the overall ContentDirector configuration
The procedures described in this chapter assume that you will configure the ContentDirector software and the ContentDirector agent software as follows.
Step
|
Action
|
|
1 |
Install and start the ContentDirector core application on the distribution server.
|
|
2 |
Configure the ContentDirector agent software on all group leaders and group members, as described in this chapter.
|
|
3 |
Start up all CDAs, network segment by network segment.
As each group leader comes up, the group leader sends a report to the core application listing all active group members. This report is called a network segment report.
|
|
4 |
Check to see if group leaders and group members are communicating properly by refreshing the network segments on the ContentDirector management console. The newly added destinations should be displayed in the Network view.

Overview of CDA configuration
The following table provides an overview of the steps required to configure a CDA.
Other configuration that might be required
NetCache appliances configured as group leaders and group members are typically configured for Web or streaming media caching and run the ContentDirector agent software in addition to one or both of these modes. For more information about configuring the CDA for Web caching and for streaming media caching, see the NetCache documentation..
