Know your content  

Before planning your content delivery network, you need to gather the following information about the content you plan to distribute:

• Frequency of jobs
• Number of destinations per job
• Size of jobs
• Job composition (HTTP, RTSP, MMS)

Interaction of content with hardware choices and topology  

The factors listed above affect your topology and hardware choices:

• The frequency of jobs and number of destinations per job determine the load placed on the group leader. The load on the group leader influences three decisions:
  • On unicast networks, the optimal number of transport groups
  • Your choice of appliance for the group leader
  • Whether to enable multicasting to boost performance
• The size of jobs allows you to estimate the storage capacity required for group members.
