This section outlines the required steps to
properly install or uninstall a smart card reader on your computer. We have also
included a section which outlines how to remove Gemplus PC/SC drivers from your
computer. Please follow the directions carefully.
Note that under the first release of Windows 95, the computer will ask you to
locate the driver file after a reboot. This is due to a problem within Windows
95. Microsoft recommends to use the PC/SC smart card API on Windows 95 OSR2.1 or
higher.
To install a smart card reader, follow the steps outlined below. Very old PC/SC drivers may not be compatible with more recent drivers. As such, please read part III of this section, entitled "Removing Gemplus PC/SC Drivers".
Important : Do not connect your reader before the RdrInstall prompts you to.
· Start RdrInstall.
· Choose the appropriate reader.
· Choose the Install command.
· Click the Execute button.
· Follow the instructions.
NOTE If you have a serial reader, connect the power cable into the keyboard port of your computer; connect the keyboard into the piggy back connector.
Install Options
Advanced users can append options to the command instruction. For instance, calling G_ExecuteCommand with "GemPC410" as object name and "Install /NoAPM" as command name will install a GemPC410 without APM support. The following is the list of options that can be used in RdrInstall.
/NoAPM
If you have some problem with the APM support, you can use the /NoAPM switch. This will prevent GemStRMw.exe of staying in memory to check for suspend/resume command. Remember that applications have to re-establish a context with the smart card resource manager upon resume even if APM support is on (default). If the application does not re-establish context, it must be restarted.
/NoGemstrmw
Option /NoGemstrmw will prevent the installation of GemStRmW.exe under Windows 95 / 98. It has no effect on other platforms because GemStRmW.exe is not installed anyway. Note that the switch /NoGemstrmw includes /NoAPM.
To uninstall a smart card reader on your
computer, follow these steps carefully.
· Start RdrInstall.
· Choose the appropriate reader.
· Choose the Uninstall command.
· Click the Execute button.
· Follow the instructions.
NOTE This program will also uninstall the
Microsoft smart card base components on Windows 95 /98 /ME and NT4.0.
To remove any previously installed Gemplus PC/SC
drivers from your computer, you can use the "Clean All" feature
outlined below. This feature has been integrated into the install kit in order
to prevent possible conflicts with other PC/SC drivers from Gemplus.
· Start RdrInstall.exe from the install disk.
· In the reader box write "All".
· In the command box write "Clean"
· Click the Execute button.
NOTE This program will NOT uninstall the
Microsoft smart card base components.
You are now ready to install the smart card reader of your choice on this
computer.
