About hiding NetCache-generated error messages

Hiding NetCache-generated messages  Top

NetCache provides detailed messages about errors it detects and information about how to resolve the problem that caused the error to occur. If you do not want end users to be aware that a Web cache is being used, you can suppress NetCache messages and instead display more generic, less detailed Web browser messages. Hiding the existence of a Web cache is sometimes referred to as running in stealth mode.

Restrictions for stealth mode  Top

Stealth mode is applicable only to transparent and nontransparent HTTP.

Messages displayed by browsers when stealth mode is on  Top

Different browsers sometimes display different messages in response to the same error condition. However, the user of a particular browser will always see the same message, regardless of the error condition. For example, if the user of a Netscape browser sends NetCache a request that ultimately fails, that user might receive a return message indicating that the connection has been reset.
