Configuring NetCache takeover will be faster if you plan ahead. Use the information in the following table to determine the configuration that is necessary for your organization.
Which IP address of the network interface on this NetCache appliance is to be dedicated to receive heartbeat messages from the takeover partner. |
Which IP address of the network interface on the other NetCache appliance is to be dedicated to receive heartbeat messages from this NetCache appliance. |
Whether to configure a single mode virtual interface (VIF) with NetCache takeover. |
Configuring a single mode VIF (virtual interface) with NetCache takeover enables you to achieve a higher fault tolerance than can be achieved with NetCache takeover alone. For an illustration of the use of a single mode VIF with takeover, see the Deployment Guide. For more information about virtual interfaces, see Chapter 2, NetCache Network Interfaces. |
If you enable protocol and user authentication, do one of the following so that takeover works correctly: |
Users are allowed or denied access to NetCache services and content based on which NetCache services they request. You must configure access control parameters the same on both takeover partners. Otherwise, if a takeover occurs, some users might not be able to access content that they could access before the takeover. |

Users are allowed or denied access to content based on which NetCache appliance services they request. You must configure URL restrictions identically on both takeover partners. Otherwise, if a takeover occurs, users might not be able to access content that they could access before the takeover occurred. Conversely, users might be able to access content that they were restricted from accessing. |
