Chapter 12

NetCache Appliance Takeover

About this chapter  Top

This chapter helps you plan NetCache takeover configuration and monitor the status of NetCache appliances configured as takeover partners.

The NetCache takeover feature provides a way of setting up automatic failover between two NetCache appliances. This feature is useful if you are not using an L4 or L7 switch or a WCCP router with transparency to enable client access to NetCache appliances. (With an L4 or L7 switch or a WCCP router and transparency, if a NetCache appliance becomes unavailable, the switch or router automatically fails over to another NetCache appliance or the Internet.) With NetCache takeover, you configure two NetCache appliances as a takeover pair, thereby setting them up to monitor each other's status and take over for each other in case of failure.

Note
See the Deployment Guide for details about how the NetCache takeover feature works, the services it supports, and deployment considerations.
