Appliance upgrade considerations

Version upgrade of local configuration files  Top

Starting with NetCache 5.0.x, when you upgrade from one version of NetCache to the next, any configuration file on the local appliance that you are upgrading is updated to be compliant with the version that you are upgrading to.

Global configuration file version string requirements  Top

All global configuration files that are read by appliances undergoing upgrade to NetCache 5.3.1 require an initial version string line of the following syntax:

#!Config Vx.xxx

In the preceding string, x.xxx is the number of the NetCache version with which the option settings contained in this configuration file are compliant.

Note
All the configuration options specified in the configuration file must be compliant with the version specified in this line.

Automatic local version conversion

When reading configurations from a remote global configuration file, the local appliance reads the version line of that global configuration file.

If the NetCache version of the remote global configuration file is earlier than the version of NetCache installed on the local appliance, the local appliance locally converts any outdated configuration options from the global configuration file to be compliant with its own installed version of NetCache.

Before upgrading a local appliance version  Top

Before you upgrade the NetCache version of a local appliance, verify that the global configuration files that it references all contain an initial version string line.

If a global configuration file contains no version string, the local appliance does not read the global configuration file and displays an error message.

Before upgrading a global configuration file version  Top

Before you modify a global configuration file to support a later version of NetCache, verify that every appliance that reads that global configuration file is running either the version of NetCache that you are modifying to or a later version.

If the NetCache version of a remote global configuration file is later than the version of NetCache installed on a local appliance, the local appliance does not read that global configuration file and displays an error message.
