You do not need to configure anything on the appliance to permit HTTP-based autodiscovery. However, when HTTP-based autodiscovery is used, DataFabric Manager cannot receive monitoring information unless SNMP is enabled.
When DataFabric Manager discovers an appliance using HTTP-based autodiscovery, it tries to enable SNMP, using the built-in XML interface. This method works only for appliances running NetCache 5.3 and later. If you are running a release prior to NetCache 5.3, you must manually enable SNMP.
The HTTP-based Discovery Enabled, HTTP-based Discovery Port, and Automatic SNMP Enabled options in DataFabric Manager (Main window > Options link) must be enabled to support this feature. The HTTP-based Discovery Enabled and HTTP-based Discovery Port options are enabled by default. You must manually enable the Automatic SNMP Enabled option (or manually enable SNMP on the appliance using the Appliance Manager or CLI).
HTTP-based discovery acts as a backup discovery method for the SNMP auto discovery mechanism. DataFabric Manager (version 2.2 and later only) uses HTTP-based discovery if an SNMP request to the same address times out. The SNMP and HTTP connection attempts have the same total time-out value, but SNMP is tried two times, with each attempt having half the time-out value of HTTP. HTTP-based autodiscovery is tried once.
DataFabric Manager sends a special HTTP ping message to the NetCache administration port to discover NetCache appliances. The NetCache appliance requires no user authentication for this special message, and responds automatically with a list of its active interfaces.
