Network Appliance recommends that you use the WCCP service group password feature to restrict unauthorized users from joining a WCCP service group. The service group password, which you set by protocol, is for authentication between the appliance and all routers in the WCCP Routers list. You have the option to set a service group password when you create a new service group.
You can assign a different password to each service group or you can assign the same password to all service groups.
Note
You must configure the same password on all WCCP routers and proxy-cache servers that belong to a service group.
The WCCP password can consist of up to eight characters (no spaces are allowed).
