Managing core files

What core files are created  Top

If a hardware or software failure occurs, the NetCache appliance might crash. If a system crash occurs, the NetCache appliance displays a message on the system console, logs a message in the Messages log, and creates a core file named core.n (the n in the file name is a number).

Core files include information that might be essential for determining the cause of the crash and are often necessary for investigating problems involving the file system.

How many core files are kept  Top

The NetCache appliance saves a maximum of two core files on disk. These core files, named core.0 and core.1, are the files that were created for the previous two system crashes.

What to do with core files  Top

By default, the NetCache appliance automatically sends Autosupport e-mail to Network Appliance Technical Support each time the system is rebooted. However, if you have disabled Autosupport or if you removed the Network Appliance entry from the Autosupport e-mail list, contact Network Appliance Technical Support when your system creates a core file.

The Appliance Manager provides a way to download core files to a client if you need to send a core file to Network Appliance Technical Support. You can also choose to delete a core file to reclaim disk space for proxying.
