When to boot from the system boot media
You might need to reboot the NetCache appliance from the system boot diskettes or compact flash PC-card to correct configuration problems, recover from a forgotten password, or correct certain disk configuration problems.
Where to find new system boot images
Occasionally, Network Appliance makes new system boot images available when releasing upgrades to the NetCache software. Check the NOW site (http://now.netapp.com/) to see whether you need to create new system boot diskettes or compact flash PC-card for a software upgrade.
Secure system boot media
To avoid security problems, limit access to the system boot diskettes and compact flash PC-cards.

Booting from a compact flash PC-card
The C1200 and C2100 model appliances use a compact flash PC-card as the primary boot device. On the C1200, the flash card is normally never removed from the appliance. The flash card on the C2100 is always resident.
Hot swapping of the flash card is not supported; that is, the appliance must be halted and powered down prior to removal or installation of the flash card.
The rules for when you would boot and where to obtain boot files are the same as those stated for booting from diskettes.
To boot the appliance from the compact flash PC-card, complete the following steps.
