Planning for your application servers that use RTMON

Adding an additional application server group for redundancy  Top

Your NetCache deployment will already have been set up to ensure maximum reliability between clients and the appliance. However, to ensure optimal functioning of your e-Commerce deployment, you need to plan for how to handle application server failure. RTMON's appliance configuration of logical application server groups provides a failover scheme. However, you must have enough application servers to support the load if one or more application servers become unavailable. Network Appliance recommends that you add at least one more server group than you would typically need to handle essential monitoring functions, for example, for billing services.

Your developers must program the application servers to use the RTMON protocol on the appliance. The RTMON XML attributes available for the developers are documented in Chapter 3, RTMON API.
