Deployment illustrated  Top

The following illustration shows a NetCache appliance working with two ICAP servers, one server provides content filtering service before the NetCache appliance checks its cache for requested objects, and the other server provides language translation service after the origin server returns the content. With ICAP, multiple services can act on the same request and response to the request, as is the case in this scenario.

The company set up ICAP on the NetCache appliance as described in the following paragraphs.

Setting up content filtering

An ICAP ACL was entered to ensure that NetCache sends requests to the content filtering service during the evaluation of other NetCache ACL rules. Vectoring must occur at the start of the ACL evaluation phase (before NetCache checks its cache for content). The reason is that the ACL rules that were entered to allow only marketing employees to access the Internet at any time must be applied based on the categorization results returned by the content filtering service. An ACL rule also was entered to allow the marketing group access at any time but to deny access for anyone else between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Setting up language translation:

An ICAP ACL was entered to ensure that NetCache sends content returned from the origin server to the ICAP language translation service. If the content is not in French, the language translation service translates it to French.
