Troubleshooting a failed disk
Recovery from disk replacement failure
If a SCSI disk fails during a disk hot swap operation, the appliance displays the following warning and then halts:
*** WARNING ***
A disk has failed during a disk swap operation. The system is
halting to allow recovery. Please power off disk storage shelves
for 15 seconds to completely spin down the disks. Then reapply
power to shelves and reboot the system.
A system reboot can usually clear transient disk errors that occur during the disk hot swap. However, to recover from the error if it persists after the system reboot, complete the following steps.
Step
Action
1 |
Disconnect the disk shelf used during the hot swap from the power source and wait 15 seconds. This allows all drives to spin down.
2 |
Reconnect the power source to the disk shelf.
3 |
At the system monitor prompt, enter b to reboot the system.
After the reboot, your change to the disk array takes effect.
4 |
Contact Network Appliance Technical Support if you encounter any further disk problems during the hot swap.
When you call, be prepared, if possible, to provide information about your appliance, such as the output from the sysconfig -v command, messages in the Messages log, and a precise description of how the hot swap was performed.
