HTTPS

About this chapter  Top

This chapter describes HTTPS service for caching, access control, and Web acceleration. The HTTPS implementation facilitates SSL transport for secure HTTP objects.

Procedures and option descriptions  Top

See the Appliance Manager online Help for configuration procedures and option descriptions.

Configuration overview  Top

Options for configuring HTTPS are located in the Appliance Manager. Configure the HTTPS feature in the order shown in the following table.

Step

Action

1

Install the HTTPS license.

Setup tab > System > Licenses

2

Download certificate and key file information to the appliance.

Setup tab > Authentication > SSL Contexts

3

Define an SSL context.

Configure a set of parameters used for establishing a secure SSL connection.

Setup tab > Authentication > SSL Contexts

4

Enable or disable HTTPS services.

Before you enable HTTPS for any configuration, you must configure protocol support and client access to the appliance using HTTP options.

Setup tab > HTTPS General

5

Create access control rules.

ACL functionality for HTTPS is equivalent to HTTP ACL functionality. Some variables, however, are not supported for both HTTPS inbound and HTTPS outbound traffic. For more information, see Authentication.

Setup tab > HTTPS > General

6

Create Web accelerator rules.

Web acceleration deployments might require rules to direct HTTPS traffic.

Setup tab > HTTPS > Web Server Acceleration

7

Set transparency options.

Network Appliance assumes that transparency is enabled for all forward proxy deployments that support HTTPS.

Setup tab > Transparency

8

Create header and caching rules.

Specify what the appliance will and will not cache by creating and editing explicit caching rules.

Setup tab > HTTP > Header and Caching Behavior

Note
Options for HTTP function in the same way as their HTTPS counterparts; however, connections accepted on an HTTPS port are governed only by the HTTPS configuration options. In the absence of options for controlling HTTPS traffic, rules set to control HTTP govern HTTPS objects.
