Whether you plan to set up your SmartFilter category blocking on the SmartFilter pages or through ACLs, you must set certain basic options on the Access Control - SmartFilter page in the Appliance Manager.
After setting up your basic options, you must also obtain SmartFilter control files, as described in SmartFilter control file updates.
The options displayed on the SmartFilter page vary according to the version of SmartFilter that is selected. If you change the selected version, you must click Commit Changes at the bottom of the page before the options associated with the newly selected version are displayed.
For instructions on how to set up basic SmartFilter options, see the Appliance Manager online Help.
If you want information about SmartFilter to be recorded in the Web access log, you must specify the following headers when you configure logging for the Web access log:
x-smartfilter-categories
x-smartfilter-result
During testing and troubleshooting, it is helpful to review information in the Web access log. A SmartFilter log entry for a particular Web site shows all SmartFilter categories associated with a specific URL.
To configure custom headers for the Web access log, select Setup tab > HTTP > Logging.
