About DynaBLocator

What is DynaBLocator?

DynaBLocator software, included with NetCache, enables you to deny your users access to Web sites that contain objectionable content. DynaBLocator identifies Web sites whose HTTP content matches DynaBLocator content categories and includes lists of those sites in its URL database. The sites that DynaBLocator actually blocks depends on the categories you select when you set up content blocking for your organization.

DynaBLocator includes 58 categories for Web sites that can be blocked, including categories for sites related to pornography and nudity, educational, societal, and religious organizations, extremist activities, criminal activities, games and gambling, entertainment and culture, information and communication, drugs, lifestyle, finance and investing, medicine, and more. The DynaBLocator URL database is continually updated through the following methods:

Searches of the Internet for URLs with suspicious images
Searches of the Internet in which a linguistic-semantic method is used to categorize Web sites based on their textual content

Requirement to use DynaBLocator

If your appliance has less than 512 MB of memory, which is the case with the C1100 and C720S2 models, the Optimize Memory option on the WebWasher - DynaBLocator page in the Appliance Manager must be enabled. The Optimize Memory option is enabled by default. DynaBLocator requires an appliance with a minimum of 512 MB of memory unless the Optimize Memory option is enabled.

Only one content filtering method can be enabled

DynaBLocator is one of two content filtering methods that NetCache provides. You can enable only one method at a time. Therefore, if you enable DynaBLocator, you cannot enable SmartFilter at the same time.

Obtaining a DynaBLocator subscription

To use the DynaBLocator feature on NetCache, you must first purchase a subscription to the DynaBLocator URL database. See the NOW Web site (http://now.netapp.com) for details. You will receive a customer ID that enables you to download the DynaBLocator URL database.

Evaluating DynaBLocator

If you want to evaluate DynaBLocator before determining whether to purchase a subscription, you can do so by filling out the DynaBLocator evaluation form on the NOW Web site at http://now.netapp.com/.
