About the logging options

Available logging options

The following two logging options are available in the Appliance Manager:

NNTP Access Log Enable
NNTP Log Format

Location of the logging options

The logging options are available on the NNTP - Logging page (Setup tab > NNTP > Logging) in the Appliance Manager.

NNTP Access Log Enable

This option enables or disables the news cache log file.

The news cache provides a log file specifically for news caching. The file is called the NNTP access log.

NNTP Log Format

This option enables you to specify the format in which the log file will be written.

You can choose between NNTP Access Log Default Format and Custom Format.

NNTP Access Log Default Format

When you specify NNTP Access Log Default Format, the NNTP access log reports the following:

Time, in seconds, since UNIX epoch, January 1, 1970
Client IP address
News article accessed by the client
Newsgroup accessed by the client
Total number of bytes sent by the NetCache appliance to the client
Total number of bytes received by the NetCache appliance from the client
Errors that occurred during transactions (NetCache appliance error codes)
Errors that occurred during transactions (NNTP server error codes)
NNTP transaction codes
Total time taken to complete the transaction

Custom Format

The NetCache appliance custom log feature enables you to modify the format of the NNTP access log file so that you can tailor the logs to meet your requirements. You can create your own log file formats by selecting the Custom Format option on the NNTP - Logging page and entering the log headers directly into the Custom Format box.
