NetCache multicast streaming features

You can configure NetCache to convert unicast and multicast requests and streams using the following methods:

Multicast to unicast--A content provider broadcasts in multicast, which NetCache converts to unicast and delivers to clients.
Unicast to multicast--NetCache receives a unicast stream, which NetCache converts to multicast and broadcasts to clients in a multicast-enabled network.
Multicast to multicast--NetCache receives a live stream from a server-defined multicast channel and sends the stream to clients through another NetCache-defined multicast channel.
Note
Currently, the multicast-to-multicast method applies only to RealPlayer connections.

IP address requirements in a multicast streaming environment

The range of multicast output IP addresses designated on the NetCache appliance must not be the same as any other NetCache appliances or users. Your organization might already have a range of IP addresses reserved for multicast streaming. If not, NetCache provides default addresses.

Port requirements in a multicast streaming environment

The range of multicast output ports designated on the NetCache appliance must not be the same as any other NetCache appliances or users. Your organization might already have a range of ports reserved for multicast streaming. If not, NetCache provides default port numbers.
