Types of discovery

You can use storage discovery, PRO discovery, and MetroCluster discovery to discover storage controllers and their associated objects in each type.

ApplianceWatch provides the following discovery types:

Storage discovery
Storage discovery is accomplished when Data ONTAP storage devices are discovered as network devices by the built-in Microsoft System Center Operations Manager discovery wizard using SNMP. The controllers are recognized as Data ONTAP storage devices and, if valid credentials are set in the System Center Operations Manager database, the storage containers in these controllers are discovered.
Data ONTAP PRO discovery
Data ONTAP PRO discovery involves finding the mappings between Data ONTAP storage and Hyper-V virtual machines. Data ONTAP PRO discovery runs WMI queries locally on Hyper-V hosts to get all relevent disk information from those hosts to compare to the disk information for the controllers in System Center Operations Manager. By default, Data ONTAP PRO discovery might take up to two hours to initially discovery virtual machine storage mappings.
MetroCluster discovery
The MetroCluster management pack is an optional pack with a separate discovery process. The MetroCluster discovery process uses controller objects that have already been discovered by the Data ONTAP management pack.
