Setting up CIFS

You can use System Manager to set up CIFS.

Before you begin

•	The CIFS license must be installed on your storage system.

•	While configuring CIFS in Active Directory domain:

•	DNS must be enabled and configured correctly.

•	The storage system must be able to talk to the Domain Controller using the fully qualified domain name (FQDN).

•	The time drift between the storage system time and the domain time must not be more than the drift time configured in Data ONTAP.

Note: System Manager currently supports organizational units (OU) for active directory domains only on systems running Data ONTAP 8.1 Cluster-Mode. If you want to include your system in an OU other than the default "Computers", you must use the CIFS setup command.

Steps

1.	From the Home tab, double-click the appropriate storage system.

2.	Ensure that the left navigation pane displays the Vservers hierarchy.

3.	In the navigation pane, select the Vserver and click Configuration > Protocols > CIFS.

4.	In the Configuration tab, click Set up.

5.	Specify the NetBIOS name and the Active Directory domain details as requested by the CIFS Server Set Up dialog box.

6.	Click Setup.
