Creating LUNs
You can create LUNs for an existing aggregate, volume, or qtree when there is available free space. You can create a LUN in an existing volume or create a new FlexVol volume for the LUN. You can also enable Storage Quality of Service (QoS) to manage the workload performance.
About this task
If you specify the LUN ID, System Manager checks the validity of the LUN ID before adding it. If you do not specify a LUN ID, Data ONTAP automatically assigns one.
While selecting the LUN multiprotocol type, you should have considered the LUN multiprotocol type guidelines for using each type.
Steps
1.
From the home page, double-click the appropriate storage system.
2.
Expand the Storage Virtual Machines hierarchy in the left navigation pane.
3.
In the navigation pane, select the Storage Virtual Machine (SVM) and click Storage > LUNs.
4.
In the LUN Management tab, click Create.
5.
Specify the name, size, type, and description for the LUN, and click Next.
6.
7.
8.
Select the Enable Storage Quality of Service check box if you want to manage the workload performance of the LUN, and click Next.
You can create a new QoS group policy or select an existing group policy. If you select an existing group policy that is assigned to some storage objects, the maximum throughput that you specify is shared among the objects.
9.
You can review the specified details in the LUN summary window and click Next.
10.
Confirm the details and click Finish to complete the wizard.
