VSS requester
Toolkit 2.3 includes four new cmdlets used to interact with VSS: Get-NaVssProvider, Get-NaVssSnapshot, Get-NaVssWriter, and Invoke-NaVssBackup. With these four cmdlets, the Toolkit can perform the basic functions of a VSS requester.
SCSI XCOPY
Most Toolkit cmdlets utilize WAFL block-cloning instead of copying data when appropriate. Two cmdlets, Repair-NaVirtualDiskAlignment and ConvertTo-NaVhd (for dynamic to fixed VHD conversion), will sometimes need to use a slower host-based copy when the WAFL blocks are not aligned. Toolkit 2.3 introduces the ability to use SCSI XCOPY to offload the copy operation to the Data ONTAP controller. This is enabled for 8.1.1 7-Mode and will be available for clustered ONTAP in a future release.
Private key authentication for SSH
Invoke-NaSsh and Invoke-NcSsh now include a new parameter, PrivateKeyFile, which allows the user to specify a private key file to use for SSH session authentication.
Simplified queries with PowerShell 3
With PowerShell 3 and Toolkit 2.3, powerful clustered ONTAP queries can be performed in a single command.
