NAME

snapdrived - SnapDrive for UNIX daemon

SYNOPSIS

snapdrived { start | status | passwd }
snapdrived [ -force ] { stop | restart }

DESCRIPTION

Prior to SnapDrive for UNIX 4.0, snapdrive was working as a single binary application. Every invocation of snapdrive command used to start snapdrive binary, do all the neccesary initializations and process the command and print the output on the terminal. SnapDrive for UNIX 4.0 and later releases will ship snapdrived daemon binary along with snapdrive binary. snapdrive binary works same as earlier with same set of command line interface, however this command line will be shipped to snapdrived daemon running in the system for processing. snapdrived daemon will send back output to snapdrive binary and it will print on the terminal. There is no change in command line interface and user experience.
snapdrived daemon uses a default password mechanism to trust snapdrive binary. This default password is installed when snapdrived is started first time in an encrypted file in product install directory. Only root user can change this password using snapdrived passwd command (see below for command details).
Any change in snapdrive.conf parameters or any change in the system configuration which will affect snapdrive functionality should follow with snapdrived restart (see below for command details). System configuration changes are like iscsi service started, new volume manager is installed etc.
snapdrived daemon provides following additional functionality:
HTTPS support:
Communication between snapdrive and snapdrived binary by default happens through HTTP. This can be changed to HTTPS using following configuration option in snapdrive.conf file.
use-https-to-sdu-daemon=on
Root user has to provide a self signed ceritifcate path in config file (snapdrived supports only self signed cerificates without pass phrase, this can be generated using openssl tools).
sdu-daemon-certificate-path=/opt/NetApp/snapdrive/snapdrive.pem

OPTIONS

All the below mentioned operations can be executed with only root privileges. For any non-root user, there will be an error message displayed.
start For any SnapDrive for UNIX command to work, the snapdrived daemon has to be started. At any point in time, there will be only one snapdrived daemon running on the host machine.
status snapdrived daemon will display status of all the commands in execution.
stop snapdrived daemon will check whether an instance of daemon is already up and if so it will request the daemon to stop. Upon receiving the request, snapdrived daemon would stop after completing all currently executing commands. When -force option is mentioned, the snapdrived daemon would cancel all the requests under execution. The snapdrived daemon will not perform any rollback for the requests under execution. If force operation is issued when some requests are being processed then a manual recovery of the system to a clean state may be needed. Once the stop request is received no more new requests will be honoured.
restart snapdrived daemon will check whether another instance of the daemon is already up and if so will send stop request to the daemon. Upon receiving the request SDU daemon would stop after completing all the pending requests.When -force option is mentioned, the snapdrived daemon would cancel all the requests under execution.The snapdrived daemon will not perform any rollback for the requests under execution. If force operation is issued when some requests are being processed then a manual recovery of the system to a clean state may be needed. Once the daemon is stopped, new instance of the daemon would be started.
passwd snapdrived daemon password can be changed using this option. A default password would be installed during first daemon start on the machine.

EXIT STATUS

Errors encountered by snapdrived will usually be logged or produce other diagnostic output. snapdrived's exit status will indicate the result of the operation or sequence of operations. A non-zero exit status indicates that an error occurred, or that an unusual condition arose that snapdrived warned about. See the "SnapDrive for UNIX Installation and Administration Guide" for a complete list of error numbers, error names, and explanations.
