How the SnapManager Configurator works

SnapManager Configurator is a wizard-based component of SnapManager that moves your Domino Data directory and transaction log files to the virtual disks you configured with SnapDrive.

SnapManager Configurator copies the Domino Data directory and transaction logs so that they are placed in the correct location for proper functionality of the SnapManager Backup and Restore processes. The SnapManager Configurator can migrate data in the following ways:

From local disk to virtual disk
From CIFS shares to virtual disk

Before you migrate your Domino server to virtual disks, you must make sure that your Domino server is down. When you migrate your Domino server Data directories and transaction logs to virtual disk, you must restart your Domino server in order to complete the migration process.

Rules for storing Domino Data directory and transaction log files

Adhere to the following rules for storing the Data directory and transaction log files:

These rules are enforced by SnapManager Configurator.

Each server must have its own virtual disk for storing the Domino Data directory.
Domino transaction logs and SnapInfo directory cannot reside on the same virtual disks as their corresponding Data directory.
You must store Domino Data directory and transaction log files on separate virtual disks; this enables SnapManager Restore to use the filer's SnapRestore^TM feature.
A single filer volume can store multiple virtual disks from various Domino servers.
Do not install system files on filer volumes containing your virtual disks used for your Domino Data directory or transaction logs.
