How it works

SnapManager Restore restores the Domino server's selected snapshot. The entire virtual disk containing the selected Domino server's Data directory and transaction logs is restored from the backup.

What happens when you perform a SnapManager Restore

When you perform a SnapManager Restore, the following events occur in sequential order:

Stage	Process
1	SnapManager restores the Data directory residing in the chosen snapshot to the active file system.
2	The transaction logs are restored from snapshot.
3	The archived logs are copied back into the transaction log directory.
4	The Domino server needs to be restarted.
5	If you are doing an Up-to-the-Minute Restore, the transaction logs are played forward.

Types of restore

SnapManager Restore provides the following types of restore:

Up-to-the-minute--In this type of restore, all the transaction logs are played forward into the restored Data directory. This includes transaction logs from the backup sets, as well as the existing transaction logs in the transaction log directory. A contiguous set of transaction logs is required for an up-to-the-minute restore to succeed. This option is selected by default.
Point-in-time--In this type of restore, only the transaction logs that existed at the time the selected snapshot was created are played forward into the restored database because you are restoring to the instant the backup was taken.
After a point-in-time restore is executed, all previously existing snapshots are not available for up-to-the-minute restores. You can use these existing snapshots for point-in-time restores only. New snapshots will be available for up-to-the-minute restores.
