This scenario explains how to recover virtual disks from a failed filer volume or a failed filer using archived SnapManager backups. Keep in mind that this process performs a point-in-time restore. Any data written to the volume between the time that the most recent (archived) backup was taken and the time of failure is lost.
To recover a failed filer volume using backup archives, complete the following steps.
| 1 | Ensure that the filer is online and available. See the Data ONTAP System Administrator's Guide for information. |
| 2 | Prepare the archive media and the backup application so that they are ready to be used for the recovery. |
| 3 | Perform the procedure for archive recovery described in Restoring the Data directory from archived media. |
