Installing SnapManager in an existing Windows cluster

When to use this procedure  Top

This procedure is for installing and configuring SnapManager 3.1 for Microsoft Exchange in an existing Windows cluster. Follow the instructions in this section if your Exchange server is already running in a Windows cluster.

Otherwise, use one of the following sections:

Installing and configuring SnapManager in an existing cluster  Top

To install and configure SnapManager 3.1 for Microsoft Exchange in an existing Windows cluster, complete the following steps.

Note
Before you complete these steps, make sure that you have prepared your system and environment as described in Preinstall or preupgrade process.

Step

Action

1

Verify that the Exchange virtual servers and the cluster services are functioning properly by moving the Exchange virtual server from one cluster node to the other and back.

If any errors occur, or if any of the cluster resources do not start properly, resolve the issue before continuing.

2

Install or upgrade SnapDrive as required.

For details, see your SnapDrive documentation.

3

From the node that owns the cluster group that contains the Exchange virtual server, create the shared LUNs to hold the Exchange databases and transaction log files, according to your SnapManager data configuration plan.

For details, see your SnapDrive documentation.

Note
These shared LUNs must be physical disk resources in the cluster group that contains the Exchange virtual server that uses them.

4

Verify that the System Attendant Resource dependencies are set correctly. The System Attendant Resource must depend on all the LUN physical disk resources and the Network Name resource in this cluster group.

5

Verify that the Exchange virtual servers and the cluster services are functioning correctly by moving the cluster group containing the newly created Exchange virtual server to the other node and back.

6

Install SnapManager on all nodes.

See Installing the SnapManager software.

7

Run the SnapManager Configuration Wizard to ensure the correct disposition of the Exchange databases and transaction log files according to the SnapManager data configuration plan you created in the install preparation.

See Using the Configuration Wizard to configure your data store.

8

If you want to have one set of report directories no matter what node you are running SnapManager from, move your report directory to a shared disk resource. For information, see About locating the report directory in a Windows cluster.

9

Run a SnapManager Backup.

See Backing Up with SnapManager Backup.
