Upgrading from SnapManager for Exchange 2000 v1.1 or later

Upgrading from v1.1 or later  Top

To upgrade to SnapManager 3.1 for Microsoft Exchange from SnapManager for Microsoft Exchange 2000 v1.1 or later, including removing the existing version of SnapManager from your system, complete the following steps.

Note
Before you complete these steps, make sure that you have prepared your system and environment as described in Preinstall or preupgrade process.

You do not need to stop Exchange services when you upgrade SnapManager. Exchange can continue to run while you upgrade SnapManager. However, if you need to interrupt connectivity to the Exchange data when upgrading other components, such as filers or connection protocols, you need to take Exchange offline.

Step

Action

1

If you have not already done so, back up system resources and databases.

For details, see Backing up system resources and data.

2

If you have not already done so, verify that your host system meets the minimum requirements.

For details, see Verifying system requirements.

3

Ensure that the version of Data ONTAP running on your filers complies with the system requirements for your target version of SnapDrive.

For information about upgrading Data ONTAP, see the System Administration Storage Management Guide for your version of Data ONTAP.

4

Upgrade to the required version of SnapDrive if necessary.

For information about upgrading SnapDrive, see your SnapDrive documentation.

5

Make any changes to your storage configuration (LUNs, volumes, etc.) that you identified in the preupgrade process.

6

Exit SnapManager, if you have not already done so.

7

Upgrade to SnapManager 3.1 for Microsoft Exchange by installing the new product. See Installing SnapManager.

Note
As part of the upgrade, you are asked whether you want to retain your current installation directory. If you change your installation directory, it could cause existing scripts that rely on the SnapManager installation directory path to fail.

8

Run the SnapManager Configuration Wizard.

If you identified required changes to the configuration of your Exchange data store, make those changes now. Otherwise, just run through the wizard without making changes to the configuration.

See Using the Configuration Wizard to configure your data store.

9

Run a SnapManager Backup.

See Backing Up with SnapManager Backup.
