A SnapManager backup set, often referred to as a backup set, is the complete set of data required to form a restorable backup or archive: all Exchange data snapshots, all transaction log snapshots, and the SnapInfo directory.
A logical entity for Exchange 5.5 containing the user directory information. Replaced by Active Directory entries for Exchange 2000.
In this guide, the term Exchange is used to describe Microsoft Exchange 2000, Microsoft Exchange 2003, or Microsoft Exchange 5.5. Information about a particular version of Exchange will be labeled with the Exchange version number or numbers.
The Exchange organization and the supporting Windows server environment.
The entire Exchange deployment (all of the Exchange servers).
The native Windows file system supported by SnapManager using NTFS.
Any NetApp storage appliances running the Data ONTAP operating system, including F-series filers, NearStore systems, and FAS appliances.
A logical entity for Exchange 5.5 containing the public and private databases. Corresponds with a storage group in Exchange 2000.
A logical unit of storage that can be managed by SnapDrive in a SAN environment. Within the Windows operating system, LUNs appear as locally attached disks. The terms "LUN" and "virtual disk" are synonymous; this manual uses the term "LUN".
Single File Snap Restore. An SFSR reverts a single file to the version of that file contained in a particular snapshot. After a file has been restored using SFSR, all user-visible information (data and file attributes) for that file in the active file system are identical to the state contained in the snapshot. SnapManager uses SFSR to restore a LUN to its state when a SnapManager backup was taken.
An online, read-only copy of a volume. For more information about snapshots, see SnapManager and snapshots.
This Microsoft concept refers to a group of one to five databases (information stores) and an associated set of transaction log files, all of which are mounted on the same Exchange server.
This concept was introduced in Exchange 2000; for Exchange 5.5, the Information Store and Database Store can be thought of as storage groups.
One or more Exchange storage groups that belong to the same Exchange server and are stored on the same filer volume.
Storage groups in the same storage group set are displayed in the same color and are all automatically preselected when one is selected to be backed up.
A logical unit of storage that can be managed by SnapDrive in a SAN environment. Within the Windows operating system, LUNs appear as locally attached disks.
A logical unit of data storage on a filer.
A group of Windows servers providing basic services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and so on. Sometimes also referred to as a Windows environment.
